Gilbert Thomas Wozney

Gilbert Thomas Wozney, 31, went home to his Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, the morning of August 10, 2020.   Gilbert came into this world on the afternoon of March 13, 1989 to parents, Gilbert DeWayne Wozney and Kandi Mae Binns.  He was a happy, curious child.  He learned to walk at 7 months and kept moving for the rest of his life.  As a youth he loved all kinds of sports.  Baseball was his favorite, but he also enjoyed skateboarding, skiing and wrestling.  

Gilbert enjoyed activities with the young men and loved scouting as a young teenager; however, like many youth, Gilbert struggled and lost his way for a few years.  The turning point for Gilbert was when his son, Alex, was born.  He worked and succeeded at becoming a responsible, loving father.  

Gilbert’s personality was soft spoken and laid back.  He also was a stand-up comic and loved to banter.  He was loyal, kind and forgiving to those with
whom he was close.  Gilbert was tolerant, patient, and always recognized the good in others.   In contrast, Gilbert could also be prickly and set in his
ways.  When he believed in something, he did not back down. 

Gilbert is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He has a firm testimony of the Gospel and believes fiercely in the
gift of the atonement.  He knew that if he did his best every day, the Savior would make up the rest. 

Gilbert’s adult life was plagued with serious grand mal seizures which prevented him from doing many of the things he would have normally done.  Working regularly and building a career, driving, and supporting his family were some of the things he dreamed of doing.   It is likely that his death was caused by complications from the seizure disorder.  In spite of the seizures,Gilbert always strived to make the best of his life.  He loved camping, hiking and fishing with his brothers and son.  Panning for gold was a favorite hobby, and he loved the drama of national politics—and, yes, he was a huge Trump fan. 

Gilbert is survived by his parents, Gilbert Wozney and Kandi Cook; his 8 year old son, Alex; 2 brothers, Luke  (Clara) and Noah, all of whom reside in Powell; grandparents, Gilbert and Jenny Wozney and Allen and Evelyn Binns; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the Church of  Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 525 W. 7th Street beginning at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
