Marian Gray Barker
September 6, 1932 - May 13, 2020
Marian Gray McKittrick Barker 87, passed away peacefully in the early hours of May 13, 2020 at Powell Valley Care Center, in Powell, Wyoming.
She was born on September 6, 1932 in Mountville, South Carolina to George and Frances Johnson McKittrick, the second child of 9 children born to the couple. She spent her childhood and youth in the country playing games with her
siblings and learning to work hard on her parent’s farm. She said that in her early teens she could pick a hundred pounds of cotton a day and by her late teens that number grew to 150 pounds a day.
She met the love of her life, Arthur Hill Barker, in early 1953 (on a blind date no less) and they married in July of that year. To this union were born 8 children: William Arthur Barker, Robbin Davis, Virginia Morrow, Catherine Simpson, Cheryl Redd, Daniel Barker, Rebecca Roscoe, and James Barker. The family started out in South Carolina, but after a few years, they moved to Watertown, New York where Marian and Arthur raised their family.
When they retired, they moved back to South Carolina which Marian was
always grateful for. She detested the cold weather!
Marian enjoyed many hobbies. She was an excellent seamstress and could sew or repair any type of garment. She loved gardening and grew beautiful flowers. She could practically plant a rock and it would grow into a rose bush. She and Art loved riding motorcycles, bowling and going out to eat together. She was very active in her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was also a member of the Magnolia Red Hatters group and enjoyed participating in all of their activities.
She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loyal friend to all that knew her and was beloved by many people. Her dry wit, quirky one-liners and her southern charm made her a joy to converse with. Her laugh and contagious giggle will be remembered by all who knew her.
Marian is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jim and Bill; her husband Art, son James, and daughter Rebecca. She is survived by her 6 remaining
children, numerous grand children and great-grandchildren. She is loved by many and will be greatly missed.
