On Thursday, May 22, 2025, Adam Brooks Mangold became whole again, surrounded by his family as they said their tender goodbyes, for now.
Adam was born on July 22, 1985, in Powell, Wyoming, to parents who loved and cared for him since his first breath.
From the moment he opened his eyes, he approached life with a fervor that amazed everyone who tried to keep up with him. Adam was never one to go halfway—whether it was sports, music, or giving someone a hard time, Adam was all in. As an avid sports and music lover, Adam committed to adventures like singing in Powell High School’s Erocne group. One of Adam’s first words and passions was baseball; this love evolved to him becoming a first baseman for the Powell Pioneers, helping to lead them to a state championship in 2001.
While continuing to follow his passions, Adam studied and worked on vehicles, eventually graduating from WyoTech with multiple specialties. Not long after, on April 28, 2005, a motorcycle accident changed the course of his life, ultimately rendering him in a wheelchair. Adam never let his wheels define him. His change in mobility was unable to take many things away from him; if anything, it revealed more of his true character—resilient, sharp-witted, and maddeningly stubborn. He didn’t just endure after his accident and many stents in diverse hospitals; he persisted and fought day in and day out. It is believed that Adam was able to persevere because he was used to suffering many heartbreaks from being a devoted Mariners and Seahawks fan his entire life.
Above all, Adam loved hard. He adored his family, his music, his cars, his teams, and most fiercely, his daughter, Sophia. His pride in her was unmatched, and his love for her was limitless.
Adam is survived by his father, Scott Mangold; mother, Joyce Ruward (Brad); sister, Shea Mangold-Haagenson (Jason); niece, Gabby; stepchildren, J and Jordan; daughter Sophia (Sabrina); aunts Kim and Lisa (Jack); uncle Danny (Janie); cousins Scott, Autumn, Ian, and Grayson; father-in-law, Bill, close friends Dave(Brittni) and KC; and many more extended family and chosen family who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his best friend and grandfather, Ralph Borcher; grandmother, Erma Borcher; grandparents Ed and Marnie Mangold; uncles Ed and Keith; and aunt Marilyn.
The Mangold and Ruward families would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff at Saint Vincent’s Hospital. Doctor Dernbach and his team were his biggest cheerleaders and he was a fantastic mentor; Dr. D, you showed him that care and understanding can heal. To Dr. Desoky and his dedicated team, thank you for your compassion and care and for making an incredibly painful process just a little more bearable.
Adam fought fiercely for 20 years. In the end, through his last selfless choice was to be an organ donor—his final act of courage and generosity.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Powell Pioneers Baseball Team, an organization Adam loved and supported. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 57 or at https://bit.ly/adammangold.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
