Alma Laverne “Bonnie” Coorough (Johnson), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, was born in Cody, Wyoming, on August 14, 1939. She was the third-oldest of five daughters born to Robert and Mary Johnson. Bonnie spent her early years traveling with her family before they settled in Powell, Wyoming, where she would make her lifelong home.

In 1956, Bonnie married the love of her life, Robert Dell Coorough, and together they made their home in Powell, Wyoming. They built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and resilience, raising their three children. Over the years, their family grew to include seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom Bonnie cherished deeply.

Bonnie and Bob shared 70 wonderful years of marriage. Bonnie worked as a CNA at Powell Hospital and later transformed her love of reading into an entrepreneurial endeavor. She opened The Book Nook, a beloved bookstore in downtown Powell, which she operated for ten years. Above all else, Bonnie loved spending time with her family—including her “fuzzy family.” She lovingly cared for many cats and dogs over the years, including any strays or opportunistic fuzzies that happened to appear on her back step.

Bonnie enjoyed reading, gardening, crafting, and pursuing her dream of being a mad scientist. She was always experimenting with herbal concoctions to cure the common cold or whatever ailment her loved ones might be facing. The ultimate nurturer, Bonnie valued her role of caring for those around her and remained devoted to her family to the very end.

Bonnie was also known for her quick wit and clever sense of humor. She had an uncanny ability to see the absurdity in any situation. She used humor as a way to connect, comfort, and bring joy to those around her. Even in challenging moments, Bonnie’s humor brought lightness and connection to everyday moments, reminding those around her to laugh often, find perspective and joy in the everyday, and never take life too seriously.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Louise Collins; her parents, Robert and Mary Johnson; and her sisters, Betty Fish and Shirley Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Robert Coorough; her children, Ned (Jacqueline) Coorough and Calleen Coorough; her grandchildren, Ralston (Mandy) Coorough, Kathleen Coorough, Saxton Coorough, Tyler (Kristin) Coorough, David Collins, Tucker (Chrystal Lopez) Collins, and Declan Berry; her great-grandchildren, Aria, Elodie, Loren, Titus, and Apollo; her sisters, Marjorie Flom and Linda (Tom) Perri; and many beloved extended family members and friends.

Bonnie’s selfless love for her family and all those around her, her incredible strength and resilience, her intelligence, and her quick wit and humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew and deeply loved her. In her memory, she asked that you throw out a handful of birdseed or wildflower seeds, place a dish of cat food on your back step or contribute to your local animal shelter—and then, with a smile, go enjoy a nice dinner and a root beer float.
