Chet Atkinson passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. While cancer may have claimed his life, it never claimed his spirit. As his family believes, cancer never truly wins, it dies with the person it takes. Chet will be remembered for his strength, resilience, and the love he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him. The outdoors was where Chet felt most alive. Hunting wasn't simply a pastime, it was a way of life. He spent countless days covering ground on horseback, making memories in the mountains he loved. If there was a ridge on the horizon, chances are you could find Chet in the saddle, topping over it with a string of mules behind him, always looking toward the next adventure or tag to fill. His love for the land and the quiet beauty of the mountains became a defining part of who he was and what he taught his children.

Chet had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, or riding horses, he felt most at home surrounded by nature. His greatest joy, however, came from spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and family. He also cherished afternoons shared with close friends over a cold beverage - or sometimes a few- and meaningful, often entertaining, conversations. Chet believed that life was richest when surrounded by the people you love, and he took great pride in keeping his friends close and his family even closer.

Raised in Montana's beautiful Flathead Valley, Chet developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors that stayed with him throughout his life. He met the love of his life, Joy, while they were in high school, and the two began dating during college. Together, they started their educational journey in Powell, Wyoming, before completing their studies in Bozeman, Montana. Early in their marriage, they welcomed their two children, Bailey and Kayla, and made their home in Powell, Wyoming. Chet built a successful career as an electrician, earning his journeyman's license, before transitioning into the oil and gas industry, where he served as a Production Superintendent throughout the Big Horn Basin and beyond. He was respected for his strong work ethic, leadership, and dedication to his profession.

Chet was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joy Atkinson. He is survived by his parents, Paul and Nadine Atkinson; his children, Bailey Atkinson (Danielle Atkinson) and Kayla Hall (Tyler Hall); his sister, Penni Anello (Derek Anello); his nieces and nephews, Cortnee Anello and Lane Anello; his mother in law, Judy Silva; and his cherished grandchildren, Nash Atkinson and Mesa Atkinson. His legacy of love, hard work, loyalty, and devotion to family will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him.
