Dennis Norman Carmon

Dennis Carmon, 54, died Sunday, June 15 in Powell, WY as the result of injuries sustained in an ATV accident.
He was born in Powell on October 11, 1953 along with his twin brother Darryl, to David and Nina (Gentry) Carmon, and attended school in Powell, graduating in 1972. Like his bother, Dennis was a fine athlete in track and field, but also held state championship records in competitive swimming, especially in the breast stroke. He also attended the University of Wyoming on a track and field scholarship.
Dennis eventually lived and worked in Colorado Springs where he met and married his wife, Betty. They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary last April 15th. In 1984 he brought his family back to Powell and in time went to work managing the Cornbelt Chemical Company warehouse in Powell, which later was acquired by the Van Diest Supply Company. Dennis was later designated as the Area Manager for VDSC in Specialty Sales for Wyoming and Montana, and still held that position at the time of his death.
Dennis loved his family, including his children Peter (35), Alexandria (24) and his youngest son Steele (20), whose diagnosis with autism was a special focus for him and his wife. He also greatly enjoyed the outdoors, and especially time at his cabin on Grinnell Creek. He was especially talented in lawn and landscape work and along with his wife took enormous pride in his homes. He had many friends in both his professional and personal capacities, and was admired for his special focus on detail, and his work ethic. His friends also knew him as the consummate prankster, with a wonderful sense of humor, who could always make people laugh.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, David Carmon, and his mother, Nina Gentry, as well as his grandparents, Doughton Gentry and Moselle Gentry-Holt.
He is survived by his wife Betty; twin brother Darryl (Norma Jean) of Powell ; sister Franzell "Mikel" Carmon of Casper, WY and Stillman Valley, IL; son Peter (Tawnya); daughter Alexandria of Portland, OR; and son Steele of Powell. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Bishop, Mason, Leo and Juniper, as well as one nephew, Travis.
Arrangements are being handled by Thompson's Funeral Home in Powell, where viewing for those who knew Dennis is scheduled for Friday, June 20th, beginning at 8 am, with a graveside service scheduled also on Friday at 10 am at Crown Hill Cemetery. A reception at the Carmon home at 220 North Division Street will follow interment.
For those who wish, memorial donations can be made to the Dennis Carmon Memorial Autism Scholarship, in care of the Northwest College Foundation, 231 West 6th Street, Powell WY, 82435.
