Donald Hillman

Don was born September 15, 1942 in Billings, MT and was the son of Edward and Louise (Gonion)Hillman.  He moved from Cat Creek, MT to Powell, WY and attended Powell schools from the fourth grade on.  As a youth Don enjoyed playing all sports, football being his favorite.  Don graduated from Powell High School in 1960 and earned an associate’s degree from NWCC in 1963.  Don married the love of his life, Judie Shumway, in 1963.  Theywelcomed two children, Raquel and Jason andspent fifty-three years together raising a family.  

Don worked 41 years for Montana Dakota Utilities.  His career started in Billings, MT, then Powell, and finally the last thirteen years in Sheridan, WY.    Upon retiring, Don and Judie knew they wanted to return to the community they loved, Powell.  Don served the community in many ways during his life.  His service included: president of both the Babe Ruth and Legion baseball programs, president of the Powell Athletic Roundtable, Recreation Board, City Council, president of the PCSD1 School Board, Powell Volunteer Fire Department as a volunteer fireman, and most recently served as the mayor of Powell from 2012 to the present day.

Don was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, and four-wheeling with his friends and family.  When not exploring the outdoors Don loved having his family over for barbeques and picnics.  He designed his backyard as a place for his grandkids to play.  Don was a loving husband, father, papa, and friend.

Don is survived by his wife, Judie Hillman; his sister, Judy Powell Bradish; his children, Raquel (Stuart) Schwab  and Jason (Amy) Hillman ; his grandchildren, Jenna Hillman, Brynn Hillman, Cade Schwab.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Louise.

Memorial services will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Powell, WY on Friday, February 10 at 10:00 a.m.  A reception will follow at the Eagles Club in Powell.  The family is grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.
