Dorman Elmer Land

Dorman Elmer Land, 82, of Powell, Wyoming, peacefully entered eternity on July 15, 2025, at his home on the Willood, surrounded by his family and friends, after courageously walking the pathway of Parkinson’s. Born on July 2, 1943, to Loyd and Laurena Land at the original homestead house, Dorm lived a life marked by adventure, service, and faith, touching the hearts of all who knew him.

His adventurous spirit was evident as he grew up on the farm with his siblings, Eldon (deceased), Verla, and Evelyn (deceased), and graduated from Powell High School in 1962, having mischievously blown the windows out of the Ag shop only once. Upon graduation, he moved to San Leandro, California, where he met the love of his life, Sharon Ann Canary, at church. They began their adventures together in 1963 after their parents signed marriage permission slips because they were underage; she was 17 and he was 19. Dorm began his lifelong trade as a mechanic, and they had their two children, Dorman Wayne and Kimberly. Surfing, abalone and scuba diving, dune buggying, gold mining, motorcycling, and boating were just some of the adventures in California. In 1975, they packed up their little family and headed back to the homestead, building their current house and opening Dorm’s Automotive and Marine in ‘76 in Powell. He worked hard with a hop in his step and a cheery whistle. They adventured along with horse and buggies, hunting, wagon training, and farming with their mules. Dorm could fix, build, or invent anything he put his mind to. He ran his home by wind, water, and solar at various times. He ran his truck on ethanol distilled at Dorm’s Auto. He built two generations of electric cars before the average person knew that was possible. All of these adventures made him a great storyteller with a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous wink.

He was a man who lived out his faith in service and kindness to others in the most practical of ways. This was exemplified in his role as deacon of Trinity Bible Church, where he helped anyone in need and fixed anything broken. While Dorm will be remembered for his adventures and service, he would mostly want to be remembered for his faith in Jesus Christ--his rock and salvation. He modeled this faith to his kids and grandkids, leaving a lasting legacy. He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 61 years, Sharon Ann, children Dorman Wayne, Kim (Patrick) Feathers, sister Verla Mangan, and grandchildren Hannah (Justin) Williams, Josiah Hogan, Abigail (Logan) Hartman, Sadie (Jeremy) McKinley, Esther Feathers, and Ellie Feathers, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, and sister.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Bible Church on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for Bibles to the Gideons, of which he was a part of, reflecting Dorm’s commitment to the Lord and His Word. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
