Cremation has taken place and no services will be held for Elmer Elwood Urwiller, 89, who died Oct. 4 at his home in Basin.
Elmer was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Ravenna, Nebraska, the son of Ralph and Clara Kizer Urwiller. He received his education in Nebraska. In February 1944, while a senior in high school, Elmer enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific as a navigator on the USS Bouganville.
He married Betty Jean Feil on Nov. 14, 1944, in Scottsbluff. The Urwillers lived in Nebraska, Montana and Wyoming. He worked in the maintenance department for schools in Lavina, Mont., and Meeteetse.
He was the proud owner of a herd of registered Herefords and belted cows.
Elmer was a member of the Lutheran Church.
His parents, five sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Betty Jean, of Basin; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Tracy and Becky Urwiller of Belgrade, Mont., Neil and Rebecca Urwiller of Caper and Shane Urwiller of Hettinger, North Dakota; three daughters and sons-in-law, Noel and Beverly Jensen of Whitehall, Montana, Edward and Karen Gorham of Cheyenne, and Dean and Nancy Rupe of Billings; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin Wayne and Kim Urwiller of Ola, Idaho; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to either the VFW in Basin, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
