GREGG ROSS BENNETT (December 26, 1954 – November 3, 2016)
Loving Husband, Father, Brother, Son and Papa Gregg Ross Bennett passed away peacefully at his home November 3, 2016 at the age of 61. Gregg was born December 26th, 1954 in Worland, Wyoming to Wayne L. and M. Lucille (Decker) Bennett. Gregg enjoyed his childhood and elementary school years in Worland Wyoming and played up the role of “middle child” to his older brother Rex and younger brother David quite well. He and his family moved to Powell where Gregg graduated from PHS in 1973. He then attended Northwest Community College, where he spotted a beauty crossing the street…he asked her on a date and she said yes!  They were married in a quiet ceremony on May 30, 1974 here in Powell - Myra Faye Skelton became Gregg’s wife that day, but grew to be his best friend, confidant, partner, eternal mate and love of his life! In June of 1977, they were sealed for Time and all Eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They had three children: Stephanie Lynn, Gregory James and Cindy Michelle. Family was the center and focus of all Gregg’s efforts throughout his life; making his wife and children comfortable and happy were always his goals. Gregg was a life-long learner, able to do anything and if he couldn’t do it, he would read the manual front to back. He loved to awake early in the day to read from the scriptures, historical books or anything from his plethora of radio talk show hosts he listened to. Gregg worked at Marathon Oil Company for most of his career working as a Pumper and later a Gas Plant Operator…you’ve never seen a cleaner or more organized oil field or gas plant than when Gregg was around! Whether out in the yard or garden or in the oil field, he always enjoyed working and worked hard all his days, never complaining about the heat or the cold (he may have complained about the bugs) or the work that was in front of him. He had a cheerful disposition, amazingly quick wit and a love of laughter – He was a happy man that made other’s happiness his focus. Gregg was diagnosed with Primary Systemic Amyloidosis in June of 2002. The doctors said he had 6-24 months to live, but Gregg refused to let that get him down, after all, he had work to do. His family was blessed to have an additional 14 wonderful years of love, laughter, service and memories with him. Gregg was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all His heart, might, mind and strength. It has been often said “he went about quietly doing good…” what he had, he shared with others – money to a person in need, selfless service to his fellow man and neighbors, warm homemade sour dough bread or sometimes, even the very coat off his back – he tried to follow the example of Jesus Christ daily and always look for the good in everyone. Gregg’s memory as a loving husband, father, brother, son and Papa will live on in the hearts of his family forever. Gregg is survived by his eternal companion and wife Myra; his loving parents Wayne (Sandy) Bennett of Cody and Lucille Oliver of Powell; brothers Rex (Cindy) Bennett of Powell and David (Anthony Shelton) Bennett of Nashville, TN; children Stephanie (Justin) Brown of Powell, Gregory (Tonya) Bennett of Powell, and Cindy (Nathan) Jones of Maricopa, AZ; and 15 amazing grandchildren (some are not blood-related, but family all the same) Michael Larsen, Tyler Larsen, Riley Bennett, Taylor Larsen, Ashlynn Jones, Brooke Larsen, Lauryn Bennett, Ellyce Jones, Jillian Jones, Kate Mainwaring, Natalee Jones, Keaton Bennett, Audrey Brown, Beau Mainwaring and Carter Brown. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 10 am at the LDS Church on Avenue E in Powell. Burial to follow at the Crown Hill Cemetery. There will be a viewing on Tuesday evening (Nov 8) from 6 – 7:30 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Powell. Condolences, memories, stories or thoughts may be sent to the family at (yes, that’s really Gregg’s email). If you wish to do something more, the family requests that you would please follow Gregg’s example and “Pay It Forward” through Acts of Kindness to your fellow beings!
