Jimmy Stewart

Jimmy Stewart died Feb. 22, 2014, at the age of 58.  

He was born May 26, 1955, in Thermopolis to James and Joyce Stewart.

After graduating from Powell High School, he went to work for Stewart Welding and Hot Shot Services. Jimmy became a certified welder and worked with all types of metals.

Later he moved to California and started a pool and aquarium maintenance business. While there he met Janette Westenhaver and they were married in Las Vegas on June 21, 1991.

He later he sold his business and they moved to Clallam Bay, Wash., in order to help her parents with their new business. While in Washington, Jimmy was also active with local Native American tribes, promoting their art and culture. It was also there where Jimmy learned the art of carving whale bones and wood, which became a beloved hobby of his. His other major passion was drawing. Whether it was a lake trout or a majestic bald eagle, Jimmy loved drawing objects of nature in pencil and charcoal. He was a very talented individual with a free spirit which always came through in his artwork.

Jimmy moved back to his Wyoming roots, taking residence once again in Powell. Up until his passing, Jimmy continued to work in welding services as well as various positions within the oilfield industry.

Jimmy will always be remembered by his family as the life of the party, the jokester, the know-it-all, and the guy who could always make you laugh and smile. His nieces and nephews always loved to see him visit, for he almost always had a new magic or card trick for them.

Survivors include his mother; son Stuart of Laramie; sisters Charolette (Mike), Sheila (Barry), and Sharon; as well as several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Given the fact that Jimmy lived with Type I diabetes for the majority of his adult life, the family requests that the American Diabetes Association be first considered for all memorials. Otherwise they can be made to the charity of the donors’ choice.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
