Kenneth Wallace George completed his earthly life on October 6th, 2026 at his home in Powell, Wyoming after a short battle with cancer. He was born on July 8, 1946, to Arley Wallace George and Evaleen Hulet in Cedar City, Utah. In February 1947, the family moved to Heart Mountain and lived in the Heart Mountain Relocation Camp for a year while they cleared land for their homestead and family home.
Ken was the oldest of eight children born and raised on the family homestead. Ken worked on the farm with his parents and siblings. He learned the value of hard work at an early age, helping his parents clear the land and plant crops. This is where he gained his strong work ethic which he passed onto his boys. His father had him in the field running a tractor at the age of four. He had many responsibilities at a young age such as feeding the calves and cows, irrigating the fields, and helping his parents in the milking barn. The family moved their home from the relocation camp to the homestead, where it still stands today.
In 1965, Ken served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Central States Mission, which included Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio. There, he met Lana Boone, whom he married after his mission on September 5, 1967. They had five boys, whom they raised in the family home Ken built on Heart Mountain.
As a junior in high school, he began driving a school bus for the Cody School District. This became a lifelong passion. Only Ken knew the total number of years he drove a bus, as he worked part time for many years before going full time for the Powell School District. He eventually retired after 28 years of full-time driving.
For many years, Ken drove trucks for C.R. Mangus out of Lovell, Reed Taylor out of Cody, and Marathon Oil out of Powell. In 1984, Ken and Lana started Ken George Trucking while he continued to drive for Marathon Oil. Ken George Trucking continued until 2016, when Ken retired from the trucking industry. He continued to contribute his time and knowledge to his son’s trucking company until July 2026.
Ken had many other jobs over the years, including selling insurance, building houses, running his own fireplace business, and working on large potato farms in Washington and Oregon. Ken and Lana moved from Heart Mountain to Powell in 1990 and later divorced.
Ken married Sandra Larsen on November 30, 1997. Sandy brought four children to the marriage, and Ken welcomed them with open arms. They spent a couple of years in Cody before returning to Powell permanently. Together, they continued to run Ken George Trucking and Store More. They enjoyed traveling to visit family across the United States. In their later years, health challenges made travel difficult, which they missed terribly.
Throughout his life, Ken loved sharing his musical talents with the community, his church, and his family, whether by singing or directing music. This became part of his lasting legacy.
Ken could hardly walk down a street or enter a restaurant in the community without running into someone he had driven on the bus and sharing a quick story about one of their trips together. He drove fourth graders on their science trip so many times that he could teach the material better than the teachers. He often wondered why the teachers had to go on the trip, too. Ken continued driving a bus long after most people would have retired because he loved the kids and hoped he could make a difference in someone’s life. The kids loved him, and he had many fond memories of driving them around Wyoming and Montana. One way he showed his affection was by giving them a hard time. He loved teasing the kids and might give them a little tug on the hair, usually followed by a return tug.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Arley Wallace George and Evaleen Hulet George.
Ken is survived by his wife Sandy. His sons Brad (Ramona), Brian (Annette), Bret (Rachel), Bart (Louann), Brice (Dana), and their mother Lana Boone. Sandy’s children, Robin (Alan), Jennifer (Tracy), Amy (Richard), and Scott. Together they have 46 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren and more on the way. His siblings Kathy (Jeff), Joan (Larry), Sylvia, Scott (Debra), Lynn (Becky), Arley (Kaye), and Jerry (Vickie) along with multiple generations of nieces and nephews.
