Kent Otto Sigurdson

Kent Otto Sigurdson, 56, died at his residence in Powell on May 16, 2009 of a heart attack. He was born in Sterling, Kansas on May 23, 1952 to Elden and Margaret Sigurdson. During his adolescence, the Sigurdson family moved many times for Elden's work, coming to reside in Powell in 1965. It was there that he finished his formative education, taking part in several clubs, including the Drama Club, Art Guild, and the swimming team; graduating in 1970. Following graduation, Kent and Mike Kopriva toured Europe for almost three months before attending college. Kent graduated from Northwest Community College with an Associates of Art degree in 1972. After college, he worked construction for several years until meeting the love of his life, Laurie Williams. They were married August 14, 1976 at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Powell. Together, they embarked on the greatest adventure of their life. To this union, they were blessed with two children; Mike and Sara. In 1989, Kent began working at Production Oil Tools, now Weatherford, where he worked for over 20 years. In 1993, Kent and his family moved to the Christy Lane Subdivision, where he enjoyed the space to pursue several hobbies. He enjoyed spending time with his family and their many 4-H and FFA animals. He was known for raising show rabbits and traveling with them. He and his wife taught and encouraged interested youth in this area through 4-H rabbits for numerous years. He truly loved his family and was always their number one fan in all they did; his grandsons brought him incredible joy. He enjoyed spending time in the mountains and cooking up a storm in the kitchen. His happiest times were having a full house eagerly awaiting his newest culinary creation. Kent was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church along with his wife. Kent lived by the saying, "A stranger is a friend not yet met."

He was preceded in death by his father, Elden Sigurdson. He is survived by his wife, Laurie, and his mother, Margaret, both of Powell; his children, son, Mike, and daughter-in-law, Melisa, and their two sons, Simon and Derek, all of Kansas; and daughter, Sara, and son-in-law, Charlie Scott, of Cody. Additional survivors include brothers Randy (Dawna) and Jeff (Teri), nieces and nephews: Audrey, Alicia (Mike), Asher, Ryan and Julia. Services will be held on May 21st, 2009 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. with burial following at the Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Thompson Funeral Home.
