Her life took a joyful turn 30 years ago when she met Gary Sweet, the love of her life. Through this relationship, she welcomed three bonus sons and countless years of happiness. The most recent addition to the family was a rescue kitty named Sox who became the light of their days. Laura loved spending time with her children and their families and doted on her grandchildren, never missing to celebrate their birthdays and milestones.
Laura was an active member of the Eagles and Elks, dedicating many years to her community, working behind the bar and behind the scenes as the Club Manager for the Elks Club. A member for 23 years, she managed the club 21 of those years, and only retired three times. She cherished her time with fellow members and her close-knit group of friends, the "Broad Squad." A devoted fan of the Wyoming Cowboys, Laura traveled first with friends and then continued on the tradition with family to cheer on her team. Her love language was serving others, and she had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and cared for, she was a fantastic cook and no one ever left spending time with her hungry. Laura and Gary were award winning chili cooks and catered many events. The couple frequently brought meals all the way to Colorado to share with family, creating countless memories around the table.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Doris Rutherford; her brother, Steve Rutherford; and her sisters, Brenda Hillewaert, and Karen Evenoff.
She is survived by her best friend, partner, and lover, Gary Sweet; her daughter, Carrie (Tim) Dewitz; her sons, Guy (Lindy) Hodges, Troy Hodges, Benje Hodges, Travis (Kim) Sweet, Tracy (Stacy) Sweet, and Troy (Jamie) Sweet; and her 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
