Marian was born Feb. 24, 1942 (2,24,42 she liked to say) to Anna Paulson and Emory Hewitt. She grew up in Greybull, Wyoming, and worked summers at the swimming pool. She moved to Glasgow, Montana, where she worked in the library. Over the years she worked as a waitress and a front desk manager in Worland, Wyoming, and then spent many years as a store manager for Kragler’s department store in Powell, Wyoming. She lived in Billings for 18 years. After retiring, she returned to Powell in 2007 and made many friends with the help of the Powell Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed many warm friendships throughout these years.
At the age of 34 she earned her GED and took classes at Northwest College in Powell. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Education with High Honors at the age of 50 in 1992 from Montana State University in Billings, Montana. She was featured in Who’s Who of Graduating Seniors in America.
She then worked as a traveling sales representative for National Merchandising Company and also worked in an adult group home for the dysfunctional and disabled. The people in the group home became her second family and she became the manager of the home.
In her youth, Marian was active in the local community; she belonged to the Chess Club, Powell Art Guild, Cody Art Club and Bridge Club. She was a Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, and served on several city committees.
She was a talented artist and had showings in local galleries. Many community members own some of Marian’s paintings. She took adult classes in art and judged adult painting at the Park County Fair. There will be many examples of her work at her memorial.
Marian leaves two children, Ruth Helen Creek of Holbrook, Arizona, and William Robert Creek of San Diego, California. She is survived by four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
An informal memorial celebration will be held at 628 Avenue G in Powell, Wyoming at 2 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 17, 2026. Contact Will Creek at creek.will@gmail.com to obtain a link for viewing the memorial via Zoom.
