Melvin L. Scott of Powell died Jan. 10, 2017, at Powell Valley Healthcare.
He was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Powell, to Harvey D. Scott and Cora Harrington Scott. Melvin graduated from Powell High School in the Class of 1944.
He served in the 4025 Signal Service Battalion in World War II, and was stationed in Guam and the Philippines. Melvin was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. When he left the service at the end of the hostilities, he started farming with his dad.
He married Joanne “Jody†Holdroyd on Aug. 2, 1948.
Melvin farmed on the Mantua flats, raising sugar beets, malt barley, hay, shorthorn cattle and a family until his retirement in 2000.
After Jody passed away in 1994, Melvin married Mary Kysar on May 8, 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jody; sisters Vivian, Ruth and Celia; brothers Glen and Keith; stepson Larry; son Keith; and grandson Joel.
Melvin is survived by his wife Mary; sister Donna Bangert; daughter Kathy; son Steve (Marian); grandkids Zach (Crystal), Misty, Ingrid (John) and Cassie (Kody). He is also survived by his stepchildren Mike (Linda), Becky (Scott), Jim (Pam), Kelly (Jim), Tom (Barb); and numerous grandkids and great-grandkids, who he thought the world of.
Services will be Friday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. at Union Presbyterian Church in Powell.
