Muriel Janis Harris died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at Spirit Mountain Hospice in Cody. She was 78.
Muriel was born July 7, 1938, in Walhalla, North Dakota, the eighth child of William Harrison Lawson and Alice Ringland Lawson. As the youngest of eight and growing up during the Depression, Muriel and her siblings endured many challenges at very early ages.

Muriel moved to Wyoming in 1956 with her parents, where she got a job at Moyer Drug, and in 1958, Muriel married Roy Harris. The couple made their home in Powell where they raised their children.

She enjoyed watching her kids grow up as well as gardening, cooking and needlework. She also had a great passion for her ceramic business, where she made and sold numerous beautiful pieces. Along with her kids and hobbies, she also worked full-time cleaning houses. She worked for many residents for several years and she grew to enjoy her many extended families.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Grant Lawson and Jack Lawson, and sisters Frances Watts, Mereda Roder and Greta Buller.

She is survived by her children Aaron (Glennda) Harris of Hatfield, Wisconsin; Pauline (Calvin) McAdam of Powell; Carla (Curtis) Cockrell of Cody; and Doug (Arlea) Harris of Juneau, Alaska. She is also survived by sisters Ida Glassier of Camarillo, California, and Joyce Strand of Moorehead, Minnesota; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 25 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 26 at  2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Methodist Church in Powell.

Memorials in Muriel’s name may be made to Spirit Mountain Hospice in Cody or the charity of your choice.
