Richard Sanderson, 82, died June 19, 2016 at his home in Powell, WY. He leaves behind his
wife, Elise Kimble of Powell, and his ex-wife Elinor Sanderson and their son Morgan Sanderson
of the Denver area.
Born in Sydney, Australia, he earned a degree in engineering from Sydney University and
worked as an aeronautical engineer in England from 1955 to 1961and in Denver, CO from 1961
to 1972. A career change to biological research included a Ph.D. from the University of Denver
in 1974 and a position as assistant and then associate professor of Microbiology at the Webb-
Waring Lung Institute. At the time of retirement, he was course director for the
microbiology/immunology course offered to dental students at UCHSC.
The out of doors nourished him and brought out a competitive side, especially in running. He
relished cross-country skiing and climbing mountains in Colorado and British Columbia.
A memorial gathering will be held in Colorado at a later date.
