Ruth Anne Cooley

Ruth Anne (Johnstone) Cooley died at the Powell Valley Care Center on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019.

She was born in Springfield, Illinois, to Robert N. Johnstone and Pearl Rolofson Johnstone. She moved to Powell with her family in 1939, and graduated from Powell High School with the class of 1945. She then attended the two year nursing program at Montana State University.

She fell in love with Bobby Cooley the first time he rode his horse past her house, living on the north end, only 1 mile apart. Bob and Ruth were married on Jan. 25, 1947. They had three children: Janice, John (Rovenna), and Jeff (Leah).

Ruth loved working in her yard, clogging and walking 3 1/2 miles every day for nearly 20 years.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary, husband Bob, and son-in-law Joe Bailey.

She is survived by her children; eight grandchildren; Kent, Nick, Andy, Clint, Charlie, Deena, Kami and Kadi; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Jane) Johnstone and Charles (Cecil) Johnstone; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ray and Alice Cooley; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2019, at the Union Presbyterian Church in Powell, with burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
