Velma Anderson Darling

Velma Anderson Darling was one of twin daughters born to Herman and Bessie Anderson, September 4, 1917 in Powell, Wyoming. Their grandparents, O.K. And Mattie Anderson, homesteaded on the Powell flat in 1909.

Velma graduated from Powell High School in 1935. After her divorce from Arthur Litton she lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming and worked in the Department of Education for two years.

She married Calvin Darling September 7, l945. When he returned from serving in the Army, they moved to the O'Donnell community where they farmed until 1955. They purchased a farm on Heart Mountain where they resided until 1992, when they move to Powell.

In 1980 they retired and spent their winters in Arizona. They traveled to Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and most of the United States. They were active in many community organizations and served as 4-H leaders for twenty years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Darling and her son Larry Litton.
She is survived by two daughters, Eileen Nicoll and her husband Bruce of Kennewick, Wa. and Vickie Yale and her husband Craig of Sandy, Utah. She also has 8 grandchildren - Laurie Wander, Joey Litton, Mike Litton, Kelly Colburn, Scott Levy, Greg Nicoll, Erin Lachowsky, and Kendra Richins. In addition, she has 6 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her twin sister, Thelma Simpson of Cascade, Idaho and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Christian Science Society in Cody, Wyoming.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 6 at Thompson Funeral Home, 111 W. 3rd St., Powell, Wyo. Viewing one hour prior to services.
