William Eugene Dixon, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 9, 2025, in the comfort of his home in Byron, Wyoming. Born on September 17, 1957, in Hebron, Nebraska, Bill led a life that touched many and left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Throughout his career, Bill dedicated himself to various roles, from working at the River Cement Company in Superior, Nebraska, to serving as a prison guard at Potosi Prison in Missouri and Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln, Nebraska. After years of commitment, he found a second home at Baldwin Filters in Kearney, Nebraska, where he worked for over 20 years, until his well-earned retirement. After retirement Bill decided he wanted to live closer to his daughter. So he packed his stuff and moved to Byron, Wyoming to be closer to her. They both were very happy about living closer together so they could spend more time together.
Bill was much more than his career; he was a vibrant presence who made any gathering brighter with his humor and warmth. Family holidays were filled with laughter thanks to his knack for playing pranks and making everyone feel at ease. His beloved daughter, Jenny Denney, and son-in-law, Jake Denney, cherished the moments they spent together with him, knowing they could always rely on his support and guidance.
His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Joshua Bertrand, MacKenzie Garen, and Konner Garen, as well as his great-granddaughter, Emberliegh Bertrand. William was not only proud of being a father but found immense joy in being a "papa" and doting on his grandchildren. He believed family was always first, and it was this belief that shaped the loving environment he nurtured for his family.
Bill’s interests were many, with a particular enthusiasm for the Kansas City Chiefs and Nebraska Cornhuskers. He relished collecting coins, playing pool, and embraced his creative side through woodworking. Music was his companion, filling his life with the sounds he loved. He was also known for enjoying a cold beer, sharing good times with those he loved.
Outside of his family life, Bill was involved in his community and held memberships with the Elks and Eagles in Superior, Nebraska. His early years were marked by participation in FFA and Boys Scouts, where he learned valuable skills that he carried into adulthood.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Katherine Rose Larkins and William Eugene Dixon, and his sister, Deb Jetensky. He leaves behind a loving family that includes his sisters Linda (Mark) Eggers of Ruskin, Nebraska, Diana (Vic) Kranau of Superior, Nebraska, and Mary (Neal) Utter of Superior, Nebraska, as well as his sister Barb (Duane) Woerner of Superior, Nebraska, and brother Curtis (Penny) Schiermeyer of Nelson, Nebraska.
William Eugene Dixon was one of a kind, a true testament to what it means to live life fully and generously. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, his kindness, and his unwavering support will forever be remembered and cherished by the family he so dearly loved.
