William Alan Thomas

William “Alan” Thomas died on Oct. 16, 2015, at Spirit Mountain Hospice in Cody. He was 62.
His sons, Jamie and Matt, have great joy and sorrow — joy because he is with Jesus, no longer in pain and free. Sorrow because they will miss his smile, hugs, pranks and most of all his loving and giving spirit. His sons said Alan was loved and was the best dad ever.

Alan was born to Ernest Thomas and Donna (DeCamp) Thomas in Liberal, Kansas. He was raised and educated in Enid, Oklahoma, graduating 1972.

He attended Oklahoma State University and received his registered nurse degree in 1986.

He married Virginia “Ginny” Turner in 1973 and divorced in 2011. Two boys were the blessing of this marriage, Jamie and Matthew.

Alan worked in Oklahoma City, moved to Powell to work at Powell Valley Hospital and West Park Hospital in Cody. He was an ICU/critical care nurse. He taught several of the nurses in the area. Everyone will verify that he kept the hospitals hopping because of the pranks he pulled on everyone.

Alan was a scout master for Troop No. 2 in Powell. He helped both boys reach Eagle Scout status. He volunteered in many other areas.

He had passion for hunting, fly-fishing, woodworking, fly-tying, jewelry making, wood carving, and wanted to write his life story. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Powell.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents and his grandchildren, Jonathan and Alex.

He is survived by his sister Marsha (Gary) Webber of Norman, Oklahoma; his sons Jamie of Phoenix and Matthew of Norfolk, Nebraska; his grandchildren Jazmine, Dylan and a granddaughter expected in December; extended family and many good friends.

Cremation has taken place. Thompson Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. A memorial service will be held next spring.

Memorials may be sent to Alan Thomas Memorial, in care of Big Horn Federal Bank, P.O. Box 821, Powell, WY 82435. Condolences may be sent to: Jamie and Matthew Thomas at 1600 S. 4th St. #2, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
